Austin, Texas – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the below statement following receipt of two reports from the State Department's inspector general (IG), which further confirm the chairman's investigative finding that U.S. Embassy Kabul abandoned and failed to secure significant amounts of sensitive security assets, including firearms and other lethal weapons, during the chaotic evacuation from Afghanistan. The IG reports also found the department has been unwilling and unable to learn from those mistakes.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast issued the following statement.

"I demand accountability for the deaths of peacekeepers in Eastern DRC. Continued instability only benefits those who see currency in the region's chaos and emboldens the recruitment efforts of the ISIS-affiliated Islamist rebel group ADF. In order for there to be stability in Eastern DRC, the parties must address the root causes of the conflict. I call on all sides to immediately return to the negotiating table."

Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul joined CBS‘ "Face the Nation" with Margaret Brennan to discuss the committee's ongoing efforts to get answers from the administration on the catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. Chairman McCaul announced he is prepared to issue a subpoena if the State Department fails to comply with the committee's document request ahead of Secretary Blinken's testimony before the committee.
