Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued a statement in response to the administration's announcement that they will support Australia's acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines in advancing AUKUS.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast announced the formation of a new task force charged with crafting legislative reforms to ensure the foreign arms sales process meets the demands of the future.
"This task force will examine the process, make it more transparent, and ensure we're getting instruments of war – which are also instruments of peace – into the hands of the right partners at the pace that war, deterrence and preparation require," Chairman Mast said.
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has reiterated compliance with the subpoena for the July 2021 Dissent Channel cable sent by 23 staffers at the Kabul Embassy, as well as Secretary Blinken's response, would only be satisfied by allowing the committee to review the actual documents.
However, in an effort to show good faith, Chairman McCaul expressed the committee's willingness to receive a briefing on the documents – with the understanding that such a briefing does not constitute compliance with the subpoena.

Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has secured an agreement with Secretary Blinken that would allow all Members of the committee a reasonable opportunity to view the dissent channel cable and the response. In response, Chairman McCaul has agreed this would be a satisfactory accommodation to the subpoena and would take contempt off the table. This is the first time in U.S. history that a dissent channel cable has been provided to Congress.
