Washington, D.C. — Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement on the death of Majd Kamalmaz, an American humanitarian and psychologist, following his wrongful detention by the Assad regime in Syria.

"This week we found out Majd Kamalmaz, a Texan wrongfully detained in Syria in 2017, died while held hostage by the Assad regime. During his captivity, Majd's family fought tirelessly for his release – tragically, the Assad regime has robbed the Kamalmaz family of their future together.

Stuttgart, Germany – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) is leading a bipartisan delegation that included a stop in Stuttgart, Germany where they visited AFRICOM and received a classified briefing from AFRICOM Deputy Commander Lieutenant General John Brennan. The delegation included House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), House Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-MA), Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), and Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific Ranking Member Ami Bera (D-CA).

Washington, D.C. — House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement on President Biden's signing of S. 138, the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act, which was signed into law on Saturday, July 13th. This legislation reaffirms it is U.S. policy that the people of Tibet have their own unique culture and religion. Last month, the chairman led a congressional delegation to India, sparking anger from China, to highlight the bipartisan support in the U.S.
