Washington, D.C. – Tonight, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken threatening to hold him in contempt of Congress if the department continues to withhold interview documents relied on to draft their After-Action Review (AAR) of the Biden administration's deadly and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

"As we prepare to mark two years of Putin's war of genocide against Ukraine, I remain in awe of the bravery of the Ukrainian people who have held off the Russian juggernaut and reclaimed over half of their territory lost since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) issued the following statement regarding conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

"We are concerned at the resumption of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of October 2023, more than five million people there have been displaced due to conflict with armed groups, including M23 and former genocidaires (FDLR). Instability remains despite the efforts of the UN and East African Community missions.

"If confirmed, the death of Alexei Navalny is a tragedy. He was a voice for a better Russia amid the corruption and brutality of Putin's genocidal regime. The Kremlin must be held to account for this outrage."

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul delivered remarks at a full committee hearing entitled, "Behind the Scenes: How the Biden Administration Failed to Enforce the Doha Agreement." In his opening remarks, Chairman McCaul questioned the decision made by President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to abandon Afghanistan, in spite of warnings from high-level advisors and American officials, including U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, who testified before the committee.
