Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the AUKUS optimal pathway to equip the Australians with conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. Last year, Chairman McCaul joined Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) to lead the AUKUS Submarine Transfer Act, which authorized the sale of these submarines to the Australians, all while adhering to the highest non-proliferation standards.

During his remarks, Chairman McCaul emphasized the importance of working with our allies to pressure the Taliban to end its ceaseless human rights abuses against innocent Afghan men, women, and children.

Dharamshala, India — Yesterday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul delivered remarks where he called for peace and freedom for the people of Tibet. He emphasized continued U.S. support for the Tibetan people through landmark legislation such as the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues to undermine their sovereignty. 


North Korea’s illicit nuclear program is a direct threat to the United States and our partners in the Pacific. The “strategic patience” the Obama administration showed North Korea only emboldened Kim Jong Un to test nuclear weapons and new missile systems that can hit the United States.
