March 21, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken following up on previous requests and emphasizing the need for the State Department to produce requested documents pertaining to the Biden administration's catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. In the letter, Chairman McCaul stresses that failure to produce these documents ahead of Secretary Blinken's March 23rd testimony will result in the committee issuing a subpoena.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch warned UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres against establishing special investigatory powers to target Israel. Chairmen Mast and Risch, in particular, warned such a brazen move by the UN would open up the global entity and its member states to potential sanctions.

Austin, TX – House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul issued the following statement on being sanctioned by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in response to the chairman's delegation trip to Taiwan last week.

"Being sanctioned by the Chinese Communist Party is a badge of honor. Nothing will deter the United States from supporting free, democratic nations—including Taiwan. Ironically, this baseless action serves U.S. interests by bringing more attention to our international partners and revealing the CCP's blatant aggression."

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast issued the following statement after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran's nuclear program. 

"A year ago, Iran sent three Americans home under flag-draped caskets who were killed at Tower 22. Within the last three months, Iran attacked Navy warships. What Israel's preemptive strike ensured tonight is that Iran's next attack will not be with a nuclear weapon."

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia Chairman Joe Wilson (R-SC) sent a letter to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressing deep concern that the Taliban is detaining innocent American citizens and imploring the administration to do more to secure the release of all Americans in Afghanistan, including by immediately classifying the detainees as hostages.

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul sent a letter to U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken accepting the department's invitation for himself and Ranking Member Meeks to review the July 2021 Dissent Channel cable regarding Afghanistan and the department's response with the names of the signatories redacted. The letter also expresses the chairman's insistence that all committee Members be allowed to review the dissent cable and response.

Washington, DC – Yesterday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul spoke on the House Floor in support of passing H.Res. 377, Calling for the immediate release of Evan Gershkovich, a U.S. citizen and journalist who was wrongfully detained by the Government of the Russian Federation in March 2023.
