McCaul Leads Bipartisan CODEL to Philippines, Australia
Washington, D.C. – Starting today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) will be leading a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) to the Philippines and Australia. The delegation includes House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific Young Kim (R-CA), House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia Joe Wilson (R-SC), and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA). The delegation will meet with senior government officials in both countries, as well as U.S. companies in Australia.
“As China continues its aggression in the Indo-Pacific, it is critical the United States strengthen our relationships in the region,” stated Chairman McCaul. “I look forward to meeting with officials in both the Philippines and Australia to learn how America can best help our partners in the region, including deepening our economic ties and expanding both our military and diplomatic cooperation. I also look forward to receiving an update on the crucial AUKUS partnership that builds on American defense innovation and works with Australia and the United Kingdom to deter the Chinese Communist Party. Only through strength can we provide the necessary deterrence to secure peace in the region and around the world.”
