Chairman McCaul Speaks On House Floor In Support of Strong Middle East Legislation
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul spoke on the House Floor in support of H.R. 340, To impose sanctions with respect to foreign support for terrorist organizations, including Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and H.Res. 559, Declaring it is the policy of the United States that a nuclear Islamic Republic of Iran is not acceptable.
H.R. 340, which passed through the House with strong bipartisan backing, imposes sanctions on those providing support for Hamas.
“Unfortunately, the media seems to have forgotten that — for years — Hamas has profited off of innocent people —prioritizing rocket production over supporting the basic needs of their people, exacerbating suffering. … We need every tool at our disposal to restrict Hamas and other Palestinian terrorists’ access to financing and hold the countries enabling them to account,” said Chairman McCaul.
H.Res. 559, which also passed with broad bipartisan support, officially declares that it is the policy of the United States to ensure the Iranian regime never acquires a nuclear weapon.
“Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. … I introduced this resolution with a bipartisan group of cosponsors to make a clear, simple, and vital statement — that it is the official policy of the United States that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable,” said Chairman McCaul.
