Chairman McCaul Speaks in Support of Bills to Counter Iran on House Floor
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul spoke on the House Floor in support of two bills: H.R. 4691, the Iran Sanctions Relief Review Act of 2023, and H.R. 6046, the Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act. H.R. 6046 would require the State Department to re-designate the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, thereby expanding restrictions against the Houthis terrorizing Yemeni civilians and threatening global commerce. Furthermore, H.R. 4691 would require the executive branch to report to Congress before lifting sanctions on Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.
Chairman McCaul on H.R. 4691, the Iran Sanctions Relief Review Act of 2023: “We can’t afford any strategic miscalculations when it comes to Iran… Every dollar that goes to the Iranian regime, in any form, has the potential to be deadly and the events of this past weekend demonstrated that. Iran launched over 350 missile and drone attacks on our ally, Israel. Unprecedented in history. “
Chairman McCaul on H.R. 6046, the Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act: “The Biden administration’s failed policies have emboldened the Houthi rebels at the expense of our regional partners. By projecting weakness on the world stage, this administration has invited aggression… The Houthis undertook this entire campaign of destruction with the backing of Iran, the leading state sponsor of terrorism.”
