Chairman McCaul Issues Statement Following White House Meeting
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul joined Speaker Johnson and other congressional leaders at the White House to discuss a supplemental package that would address border security and provide security assistance to Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. There, he told the president substantive policy reforms to address the crisis at the southern border must be a part of any supplemental package.
“In today’s meeting, I emphasized to the president the critical importance of passing substantive and effective policy changes related to the southern border. And that any package absolutely must include my bill that reinstates Remain in Mexico. President Biden’s decision to rescind that critical agreement negotiated by President Trump is the direct cause and effect that has led us to this catastrophe. Tomorrow, I am leading a bipartisan CODEL to the border where we will see first-hand the situation and meet with Customs and Border Patrol. We will then head to Mexico, where we will meet with Mexican leaders and stress the importance of getting Remain in Mexico back on the books.”
