"We are concerned at the resumption of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of October 2023, more than five million people there have been displaced due to conflict with armed groups, including M23 and former genocidaires (FDLR). Washington, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul delivered remarks at a full committee hearing entitled, "Behind the Scenes: How the Biden Administration Failed to Enforce the Doha Agreement." In his opening remarks, Chairman McCaul questioned the decision made by President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to abandon Afghanistan, in spite of warnings from high-level advisors and American officials, including U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, who testified before the committee.
