Chairman Mast on President Trump’s Expansion of the Mexico City Policy to Ensure U.S. Foreign Assistance Protects Life

January 23, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast issued the following statement in support of President Trump’s expanded Mexico City policy which ensures U.S. foreign assistance does not subsidize for abortion, gender ideology, or DEI programs.

“Under President Biden, foreign assistance funding was siphoned off for Beltway bandits, woke NGOs, and abortion. That era is over. By issuing a new, expanded version of the Mexico City policy, President Trump is preventing such a despicable misuse of taxpayer funding from occurring again.”

In addition to defunding abortion, this new guidance:

  • Prevents discrimination under the guise of “diversity, equity, and inclusion”;
  • Prohibits NGOs, multilateral funds, and other entities wanting to partner with the United States from treating our contributions as a slush fund for furthering ideologically-broken agendas;
  • Ensures greater accountability for every dollar spent in foreign assistance.
