H.R. 515, International Megan's Law to Prevent Child Exploitation and Other Sexual Crimes Through Advanced Notification of Traveling Sex Offenders
To protect children from exploitation, especially sex trafficking in tourism, by providing advance notice of intended travel by registered child-sex offenders outside the United States to the government of the country of destination, requesting foreign governments to notify the United States when a known child-sex offender is seeking to enter the United States, and for other purposes.
Every year, thousands of girls become the victims of human trafficking. H.R. 515, the International Megan's Law, introduced by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), improves coordination among law enforcement agencies to prevent the trafficking and exploitation of children overseas by convicted child sex offenders. The bill passed the House on January 26, 2015; passed the Senate as amended on December 17, 2015; signed into law on February 8, 2016 (P.L. 114-119).
