Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement on the 12th anniversary of Austin Tice’s abduction in Syria.

“Today marks 12 years since Austin Tice – a former U.S. Marine, freelance journalist, and Texan – was taken hostage by the Assad regime. While authoritarian regimes continue this disturbing trend of taking American citizens hostage, Austin has languished as Assad’s prisoner. The United States will never give up on freeing every last one of our citizens who are held hostage or wrongfully detained around the world. Austin must be unconditionally released now so he can be reunited with his family.”
