Chairman McCaul Issues Statement on Maduro Regime’s Attempt to Steal Election in Venezuela
Washington, D.C. — Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement on reports of the Maduro regime’s plot to falsify the recent election in Venezuela and arrest leading opposition candidate María Corina Machado.
“I am tracking reports that the Maduro regime may issue an arrest warrant for Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez for crimes they did not commit, further escalating their attempts to steal this election. It’s long past time that the Biden-Harris administration imposes a maximum pressure campaign on the Chavista criminal dictatorship. That includes imposing sanctions and the revocation of oil licenses they foolishly approved that are currently bankrolling Maduro’s repressive apparatus.
“The world’s eyes are on Caracas. The United States must rally the free world behind Machado, Gonzalez, and the Venezuelans taking the streets today in defense of their right to self-determination.”
