WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), Representative Steve Chabot (R-OH), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-NY) and Representative Ami Bera (D-CA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation, issued the following statement regarding the introduction and passage through committee of H.Res 1259, a resolution condemning the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and honoring his contributions to the U.S.-Japan alliance.

 

“Prime Minister Abe was a pivotal figure for modern Japan and an ardent supporter of the U.S.-Japan alliance. His leadership elevated Japan’s stature on the global stage and advanced peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and across the world. Prime Minister Abe’s vision for Japan and the region will continue to have a tremendous impact long after his untimely and tragic passing. The United States joins his family and the people of Japan in mourning the loss of a great leader and friend.”
