This morning, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) welcomed United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres back to the Committee. Chairman Royce discussed the important role women play in the peacekeeping process and he applauded the Secretary-General’s work to increase the representation of women at the U.N. Chairman Royce also raised concern over the deteriorating situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, saying: “President Kabila’s blatant attempts to stay in power are stoking violence between armed groups, security forces and among ethnic groups.”
