Subcommittee Hearing: Maintaining U.S. Influence in South Asia: The FY 2018 Budget

Chairman Yoho on the hearing: “Retaining effective programs and initiatives that strengthen our partnerships and further U.S. interests throughout South Asia needs to be our primary objective.  To gain further insight into these programs, the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific will hold a hearing on the State Department’s FY 2018 South Asia budget. This hearing will be an opportunity for Members of Congress to have a productive conversation with representatives from the State Department and USAID on how best to maximize U.S. foreign assistance programs in South Asia.”

Subcommittee Hearing: U.S. Department of State Counterterrorism Bureau: The FY 2018 Budget

Chairman Poe on the hearing: “The threat of terrorism remains a deadly challenge for us and our allies around the globe. A key tool for the United States in the fight against terrorism is the State Department’s Counterterrorism Bureau. Through the Bureau, our nation coordinates its strategy to combat terrorism abroad, counters violent extremism, and assists allies develop their own counterterrorism capabilities. This hearing will examine CT Bureau’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget request and how it could affect broader U.S. foreign policy. Members will have the opportunity to ensure that the Bureau and its assistance programs are performing effectively and efficiently to safeguard Americans and our interests abroad.”
