Chairman Poe on the hearing: “Over the last three years a wave of Islamist terrorist attacks has swept Europe killing nearly 400 people, including a number of Americans. With more than 5,000 European citizens suspected of having traveled to war zones in Syria and Iraq, America’s Western allies are particularly vulnerable to the growing terror threat. The most recent attacks in Manchester, London, and Brussels are just the latest signs that this threat is only getting worse. This hearing will provide Members the opportunity to learn more about the factors behind Europe’s unique terror threat and explore new policy options that can help our allies protect themselves against these dangers.”
Chairman Rohrabacher on the hearing: “As we have seen time and time again in the recent years, Europe is confronted by a persistent and dangerous threat from radical Islamist terrorism. This hearing will allow Members to better understand the situation and learn potential policy options to help stem the violence. Radical Islamist extremism is a common threat faced by our country and the governments of Europe. We must act together to protect our societies from this menace.”
