Chairman Royce Announces Food Aid Reform Hearing
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced that on Wednesday, October 7, the Committee will convene a hearing to examine U.S. international food aid programs and ways to make those programs more efficient and effective. The hearing, entitled “Reforming Food Aid: Desperate Need to do Better,” will begin at 10 a.m.
Chairman Royce on the hearing: “From Syria to the Philippines to Nepal, we’ve seen the limitations of U.S. international food aid programs. Our food aid costs too much, takes too long to arrive, and can do more long-term damage than short-term good. This hearing will take a look at reforms to U.S. international food aid programs so we can reach more people, in less time.”
