Chairman Royce Comments on U.N. Human Rights Council’s Gaza Inquiry Resolution
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued this statement following the United Nations Human Rights Council's passage of a resolution in the wake of the report issued by its Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza Conflict:
“The relentless attacks against Israel – in the form of rockets, rhetoric and resolutions – continue. Today, the U.N. Human Rights Council kept up its record of bombarding Israel with biased and shameful resolutions. The goal of this international campaign against Israel is to question the democratic country’s right to self-defense to the point of rendering it virtually meaningless. Why no mention of Hamas terrorism against it? Nor the great lengths Israel went to minimize civilian casualties, as credible investigations have reported? While this resolution fortunately does not refer the Commission's one-sided, anti-Israel allegations to the International Criminal Court, it undermines prospects for direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians to resolve their differences. This resolution is a black mark on the Human Rights Council, not Israel.”
