Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, applauded House passage of the bipartisan Hezbollah International Prevention Act of 2014 (H.R. 4411), introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL). Chairman Royce and Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), the Committee’s Ranking Member, are original cosponsor of the bill, which will prevent Hezbollah and associated entities from gaining access to international financial institutions. Following introduction in April, the legislation was passed by the Committee on June 26.

On the legislation’s passage, Chairman Royce said: “Hezbollah is a top terrorist threat to U.S. interests worldwide.  There has been a strong and very troubling resurgence of Hezbollah’s international operations. We must be focused on some 5,000 Hezbollah fighters in Syria, massive international drug and money laundering operations, and the terrorist organization’s acquisition of advanced missile systems. Today’s important legislation provides the Administration with essential tools to effectively target Hezbollah’s international financial and logistics network that allow for its global reach.”
