Washington, D.C. Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul announced the release of multiple transcribed interviews with State Department officials charged with coordinating the United States’ civilian evacuation from Afghanistan. This release comes following the committee’s March 19th hearing entitled, “An Assessment of the Biden Administration’s Withdrawal from Afghanistan by America’s Generals,” wherein Biden’s top generals during the evacuation — retired Generals Mark A. Milley and Kenneth F. McKenzie — underscored how the State Department’s failed to adequately plan for a civilian evacuation and hastened the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.

The transcribed interviews were conducted over several months and are minimally redacted.

Transcribed interviews were conducted with State Department officials, including:

  • Ambassador Ross Wilson (Ret.), served as the Chief of Mission to U.S. Embassy Kabul during the Afghanistan withdrawal and evacuation; and
  • Sam Aronson, former State Department Foreign Service Officer, served as consular volunteer during the Afghanistan evacuation.
