Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced the following upcoming Committee events:

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman

S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace
(Former Member of Congress)

Chairman Ros-Lehtinen on the hearing: “The Administration’s deadline has come and gone on the U.S. backed Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations without yielding any positive results.  The only so called agreement that came out of this exercise was the announcement that Fatah and Hamas are attempting to reconcile and unite again, which will have costly consequences for the PA and would undermine the possibility for any future peace deal. This hearing will give our subcommittee Members the opportunity to examine how we got here, who the major actors in the peace process are, and what were the root causes that led to this failed effort. It will also be an opportunity to take a more in-depth look at the PA, its history of ineffectiveness at governing and the possible U.S. policy and security implications a unity Fatah-Hamas government would pose.”

Friday, May 9

Markup: H.R. 4586, H.R. 4587, H.R. 4573, H.Res. 573.

9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 9 in 2172 Rayburn House Office Building
