Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement after the administration announced that it would impose sanctions on scores of entities connected to the North Korean shipping industry:

“Today’s announcement is very important, and uses tools Congress has provided. I commend the Trump administration for cracking down on the North Korean shipping industry, which the regime uses to evade the current set of sanctions. We must continue working with our international partners to put maximum diplomatic pressure on Kim Jong Un to stop his dangerous weapons programs. That’s why, during my meetings with Middle East partners this week, I’ve pushed them to do more to cut all ties with the Kim regime.”

Note: These sanctions use tools created by Chairman Royce’s North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2016 and Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act of 2017.
