McCaul Urges Administration to Send More Weapon Systems in Face of Putin’s Illegal Attempted Annexation

Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement in response to the sham referenda in Ukraine and Vladimir Putin’s illegal attempted annexation of in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. 

“The United States will never recognize Putin’s attempted annexation of one inch of Ukrainian territory. Just as Crimea is Ukraine, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson are and will always be Ukraine. I urge the Biden administration to finally provide longer-range artillery, like ATACMS. And I also urge key allies to immediately transfer much-needed systems, including German Leopard tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles. The Biden administration failed to send in the necessary weapon systems before Putin’s full-scale invasion, and time and again has been slow in delivering needed security assistance to Ukraine, prolonging Putin’s brutal war and costing countless Ukrainian lives. Continued weakness in the face of Russia’s attempted annexation would only further embolden the Russian dictator.”
