McCaul Statement on Reports Showing Forced Labor Camps in Xinjiang
Washington, D.C. – BuzzFeed News released explosive new reporting today that all but confirms the existence of forced labor camps in Xinjiang, China. The more than 100 factory facilities discovered cover more than 21 million square feet and are rapidly expanding in size and scope. Below is House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican and China Task Force Chairman Michael McCaul’s statement.
“This reporting helps to further confirm that a massive system of forced labor is a part of the Chinese Communist Party’s atrocities in Xinjiang. It is also a shining example of the USAGM Open Technology Fund’s value. The CCP has dragged global supply chains inside the fences of its internment camps, potentially forcing consumers–including Americans– to serve as unwitting participants in corrupted CCP supply chains. The global community must stand together against the atrocities committed by the CCP and stop enabling their crimes.”
