Normandy, France – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the following statement at the 75th anniversary of D-Day commemoration event in Normandy, France.

Lead Republican McCaul: “75 years have passed since thousands of courageous Americans and allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in an operation that would ensure freedom prevailed over evil. I am honored to stand on those same hallowed beaches today and pay tribute to the service members who laid down their lives during WWII. My father served as a bombardier on a B-17 whose group, among others, participated in the air campaign in support of the D-Day invasion. His stories of valor have always had a profound impact on my life, but standing in Normandy today, I am more proud than ever of his service.

“The United States and our allies fought together during WWII with unwavering loyalty to the ideals we share in order to defeat Nazism and fascism. Our nations stand shoulder to shoulder on the beaches of Normandy today to recommit our alliance and continue to honor the post-war world they fought so hard to create. I’m confident our bond will only grow stronger in the next 75 years.”
