Washington, D.C.– House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific Chairwoman Young Kim (R-CA) and Ranking Member Ami Bera (D-CA) issued the following statement welcoming Republic of Korea (ROK) President Yoon Suk Yeol to Washington.

“We sincerely welcome President Yoon Suk Yeol to the United States as we celebrate the historic 70-year anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance. In February, we sent a letter to Congressional leadership encouraging them to extend an invitation to President Yoon to address a Joint Meeting of Congress, and we are pleased that Congress will have the honor of hearing from President Yoon this week.

“Earlier this month, a bipartisan delegation visited South Korea and witnessed firsthand how our deep partnership provides security and prosperity for both of our countries. We look forward to hearing President Yoon’s vision for the future of our alliance and how we can work together to address shared global challenges including the threats posed by Russia, the People’s Republic of China and North Korea. We support expanding U.S. extended deterrence commitments to South Korea and commend President Yoon for his principled leadership in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific rooted in international rules and democratic values.”
