McCaul Discusses China and Taiwan at World Economic ForumPress Release
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul participated in a panel at the World Economic Forum entitled, “Cold War 2.0.”
“I would say we’ve been in a cold war with China for quite some time… When we look at Taiwan which is 90 percent of the world’s advanced semiconductor manufacturing capability, Xi wants that. And just like Putin, it wasn’t a question of if but when to invade Ukraine, I think Xi is looking at Taiwan and it’s a question of when.
“I think deterrence is the key here. I think as Xi looks at what’s happening in Ukraine, [he’s asking,] ‘is it worth it?’ And we have to persuade him that it’s not.”
