McCaul, Cuellar on the U.S.-Mexico High-Level Security Dialogue
Washington, D.C. – Chairman of the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX) and released the following statement ahead of the planned U.S.-Mexico High-Level Security Dialogue in Mexico City.
“We strongly urge the Biden Administration and the Mexican government to take swift and meaningful steps towards modernizing and addressing the disintegrating security relationship. We remain deeply concerned about the limitations Mexico has imposed on DEA’s ability to conduct joint law enforcement activities, and the implications for shared security efforts. At home, the Biden Administration must address the humanitarian crisis at the border so U.S. Border Patrol can focus on stopping the flow of drugs that are killing Americans and destabilizing the region.
“As supporters of the U.S.-Mexico relationship, we believe there is room for improvement. Our new approach must address the priorities of both countries. America’s rising synthetic opioid crisis and Mexico’s historic homicide rates demand a renewed and urgent approach for dealing with our shared challenges.”
