Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) announced the following upcoming Committee event:

Wednesday, June 21

Subcommittee Hearing: Grading the Egyptian and Tunisian Enterprise Funds

10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21 in 2172 Rayburn House Office Building

Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman

Invited Witnesses Include:

James Harmon
Chairman
Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund

Bowman Cutter
Chairman
Tunisian-American Enterprise Fund

Chairman Ros-Lehtinen on the hearing: “In the wake of the Middle East and North Africa’s political and economic turmoil that began in late 2010, Congress authorized the establishment of the Egyptian-American and Tunisian-American Enterprise Funds in order to develop the private sectors in Egypt and Tunisia and help address some of the root causes of their unrest. It’s important for Congress to exercise oversight over these U.S.-funded entities and assess each fund’s performance and return on investment for U.S. interests. This hearing will review each fund’s investments so far, their overall impact and effectiveness, the challenges caused by changing political and economic conditions on the ground, and any lessons learned that may be applied to potential future funds.”
