Washington, D.C.  – Today, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), welcomed Mr. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, to the Capitol for a briefing on the global refugee crises and the international humanitarian response.

After the meeting, Chairman Royce said: “I appreciate the High Commissioner joining us for a very important briefing. As conflicts rage today in places like Syria, South Sudan and Burma, nearly 20 people are forced from their homes every minute. More than 65 million people around the world are displaced – and more than 22 million are refugees. With U.S. support, the High Commissioner and his colleagues can continue to carry out life-saving work. But much more must be done. I urge other countries to step up and help us take on this historic challenge.”
