Washington, D.C. – Days before Nigeria’s rescheduled election on March 28, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on House passage of H. Res. 53, a resolution introduced by Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL), which condemns the cowardly attacks on innocent men, women, and children in northeastern Nigeria by Boko Haram and urges a peaceful and credible national election:

“This weekend’s election in Nigeria will be a critical moment for the country and the region. Alongside this election, the country continues to face the grave threat of Boko Haram. This resolution puts the House on record urging a non-violent, free and fair election and robust security assistance for the forces fighting on the frontlines against Boko Haram.”
