Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement today after the House voted to include his United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Preservation Act in the National Defense Authorization Act:

“Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is critical to U.S. maritime security and humanitarian missions in the region.  By including my bill in the NDAA, the House is asserting its constitutional authority to determine the Naval Station’s future.  Congress gave the president the authority to acquire Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, and Congress should have the final say in any decision to relinquish it.”

The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed H.R. 4678, United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Preservation Act, on March 16, 2016.  To learn more about the bill and the history of the Naval Station, click HERE.
