Chairman Royce Welcomes Taiwan’s New Ambassador
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement after a meeting this afternoon with Taiwan’s new ambassador to the United States, Stanley Kao:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Ambassador Kao to the Congress. We had the opportunity to discuss expanding Taiwan’s role in the international community and the importance of Taiwan’s inclusion in the second round of negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“In a region where tensions have risen, it is critical that the United States continues to work closely with our partner Taiwan to advance shared values including democracy, human rights and open markets.
“There is no doubt that it’s in the U.S.’s interest to have a stable and prosperous Taiwan. And as Chairman, I am committed to strengthening our partnership with Taiwan, one of our most important friends in the Asia Pacific.”
