Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul released the following statement in reaction to the ongoing devastation caused by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

“I am heartbroken by the loss of life and devastation unfolding in Turkey and Syria. I commend the efforts of all the brave aid workers who are working tirelessly to respond to this tragedy. Given the extent of damage to infrastructure leading into Syria via Turkey, the international community must make immediate and full use of ALL viable crossings to aid the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance. Bashar Al-Assad, and his Russian backers, must not be allowed to hold the Syrian people hostage amid this immense devastation.”
