21 Texas Members Call for Release of Trevor Reed
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, 21 members of the Texas Delegation, joined by Leader McCarthy, introduced a resolution calling for the release of Trevor Reed, a United States Marine Corps veteran. Reed, who grew up in Tehachapi, California and now calls Granbury, Texas home, is currently detained as a political prisoner in Russia. Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (TX-10) is joined in introducing this resolution by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) and Representatives Mike Conaway (TX-11), Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Brian Babin (TX-36), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Dan Crenshaw (TX-2), Bill Flores (TX-17), Louie Gohmert (TX-1), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), Lance Gooden (TX-5), Kay Granger (TX-12), Al Green (TX-9), Will Hurd (TX-23), Kenny Marchant (TX-24), Chip Roy (TX-21), Van Taylor (TX-3), Mac Thornberry (TX-13), Marc Veasey (TX-33), Randy Weber (TX-14), and Roger Williams (TX-25).
“The trumped up charges brought against Trevor are clearly politically motivated,” said the lawmakers. “After being held for thirteen months since his arrest, the Russian Federation sentenced Trevor to nine years in prison – a record sentence for the crime he is accused of committing. His sentence was based on evidence that was so utterly ludicrous that it was met with laughter in the courtroom, including from the Russian judge. We urge the Vladimir Putin regime to put a stop to this ordeal and release Trevor immediately.”
“Trevor has now been wrongfully detained in Russia for 396 days on baseless charges evidence proved him innocent of,” said Paula and Joey Reed, Trevor’s parents. “He now faces 9 years in a Russian labor camp in an attempt to gain leverage in a conflict between our two countries. Today, we urge the U.S. Government to do whatever it takes to bring our son home to Texas where he belongs.”
