Raises concerns about agreement, Administration rush to the UN

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after a phone call with Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken:

“Today, I spoke with Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken.  We discussed the agreement reached in Vienna on Iran’s nuclear program.  I shared with Deputy Secretary Blinken some of the concerns Members of the Committee raised at today’s hearing.  I urged that the Obama Administration not seek action at the U.N. Security Council on the agreement before Congress can review it in detail during the legislatively-mandated Congressional review period.  I am looking forward to the formal receipt of this agreement, verification assessment report and certifications required by law, the complete transmission of which will begin the 60 day Congressional review period.”
