House Urges Iran to Free U.S. Hostage Levinson
Washington, D.C. – Today, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) applauded House passage of H. Res. 148, a bipartisan measure calling on Iran to fulfill their promises of assistance in the case of Robert Levinson, the longest-held hostage in our nation’s history. The legislation, authored by Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL), unanimously passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week.
Upon passage, Chairman Royce issued the following statement: “Bob Levinson, a father of seven, remains the longest-held hostage in U.S. history. The administration must do more to bring him home.
“In testimony before the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Levinson’s son highlighted the importance of maintaining a public focus on his father’s case. He argued that we need continued action to keep his father’s fate at the forefront. Frankly, it is hard to remember a time when Iran didn’t have U.S. hostages in its prisons.
“We will continue working to bring Mr. Levinson and these other American hostages home.”
