Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s passage of the North Korea Sanctions Enforcement Act (H.R. 757), a bill authored by Chairman Royce to toughen sanctions against North Korea:

“I am pleased the Senate is one step closer to helping put my bipartisan legislation strengthening North Korea sanctions on President Obama’s desk.  Kim Jong Un is relentlessly pursuing a nuclear arsenal at the expense of his own people, who are starved, tortured and abused, and at the expense of peace and security in Northeast Asia.  Now is not the time to stand by while this regime works to build an arsenal capable of hitting the United States.  We must cut off Kim Jong Un’s access to the money he needs to fund his nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.”

Note: Earlier this month the House overwhelmingly passed the bipartisan legislation.  Chairman Royce recently penned an op-ed in the Orange County Register entitled, “U.S. Must Turn Up Financial Heat on N. Korea.”
