Royce: We need sustained financial pressure on North Korean regime
Earlier today, Chairman Royce spoke with reporters about strategies to deal with the threats posed by the rogue regime in North Korea. Here are a few key excerpts:
“In speaking to defectors from North Korea, as well as other officials, it seems that the best strategy would be one of deploying sanctions, but not sanctions that are hit and miss – sustained financial pressure in which we do not let up on those financial institutions that are assisting North Korea.”
“And in Congress, we have passed two pieces of legislation – bills that allow the administration to do just that. And we have seen Treasury move forward with some of these sanctions, but we want to see them fast forward this and deploy them so as to cut off all of the hard currency that the North Korean regime needs.”
