House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement applauding the administration for strongly condemning an anti-Israel report released this week by the U.N.’s Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia:

“Bahrain and the United States have long shared a commitment to security and stability in the Middle East. Host of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, Bahrain is a critical partner. Today I was glad to welcome Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed al Khalifa to the Capitol for a good discussion about how we can build on this important relationship, and better counter threats from Iran and terrorist organizations. In our conversation, I stressed that respect for human rights is key to combating Iran’s attempts to incite violence and instability in Bahrain.”

The Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing yesterday on Russian attempts to undermine democratic institutions and splinter the NATO alliance, with four expert witnesses testifying about Russia’s attempts to spread disinformation.
