Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement after the Justice Department announced indictments against 12 additional Russians for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election:

The administration continues to act to hold Russia accountable for its efforts to undermine our democratic process. For years, we’ve known about the Kremlin’s campaign to weaponize information and chip away at our institutions. And yet for years, we have not done enough to counter it. I’m glad that’s begun to change, thanks in part to Congress, but there’s much more to be done.

“At Monday’s summit, the president should use today’s indictments to challenge Vladimir Putin. We need Putin to change course on a range of issues, including election interference, his aggression in Ukraine and his support for the murderous Assad regime in Syria. We can’t afford to give an inch of ground in defending democracy.”
