Chairman Royce and Tunisian Head of Government Youssef Chahed

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement after meeting with Youssef Chahed, the Head of Government of the Republic of Tunisia:

“During my visit to Tunisia last year, I witnessed firsthand the determination with which Tunisia continues to press for democracy and peace. That’s why I was happy to meet today with Tunisia’s Head of Government, Youssef Chahed, and discuss important efforts to fight corruption, implement economic reforms, and counter radical Islamist extremists.

“Today many of the terrorists who went to Syria and Libya to fight for ISIS are beginning to come home, posing serious threats to Tunisia. It is in the U.S.’s national security interests to continue helping Tunisia combat these returning terrorists by maintaining foreign assistance levels.”
