Washington, DC – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement in support of interim President Juan Guaido’s re-election as President of Venezuela’s National Assembly. 

“The violent actions and intimidation by Maduro’s security forces against opposition National Assembly deputies were unacceptable- and they failed. Despite their attempt to undermine the sole remaining democratic institution in Venezuela, Juan Guaido remains the legitimate President of the democratically- elected National Assembly.”

“The United States will not waiver in its support for interim President Juan Guaido and Venezuela’s true democratic actors who represent the people of Venezuela. The international community must continue to stand with the democratically-elected National Assembly and denounce continued acts of repression by the illegitimate Maduro regime.”
