Washington D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) issued the following statement in response to the passing of late Senator Richard Lugar, an ardent rival of nuclear proliferation and foreign policy leader.

Lead Republican McCaul: “Senator Dick Lugar was a patriotic man of outstanding character who bridged partisan divides to make our country a place where anyone could live the American Dream. His efforts to seek and destroy weapons of mass destruction in the wake of the Cold War made our world a safer place. As a giant of the Senate, he served as a role model for all of us in public service.  His commitment to American values and his advocacy on behalf of his fellow Hoosiers will not be forgotten.

“Our country has lost a strong but gentle soul.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
