Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after Iran announced it will ramp up its nuclear program in defiance of international norms. McCaul applauded the Administration for applying additional sanctions to cripple Iran’s economy and limit their ability to finance terror and nuclear proliferation:

“Iran’s decision to back away from the Iran nuclear deal and threaten our EU partners illustrates their desperation. The Administration’s maximum pressure campaign is clearly working. I applaud President Trump for imposing additional sanctions on the Iranian regime today. This action, coupled with the sanctions on Iranian oil exports and the designation of the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization, demonstrates that the U.S. will not back down in exerting pressure until the regime ends its destabilizing activities. Iran should not be allowed to profit from the global economy while financially supporting terror organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. I call on the international community to uphold these sanctions and join the United States in further holding the Iranian regime accountable.”
