McCaul Statement on Emergency Coronavirus Funding
Washington D.C. – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a $7.8 billion emergency supplemental appropriations bill to prevent the spread of coronavirus and assist with the response.
“Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, I have called on my colleagues to put politics aside so that we can best protect the American people from this unseen threat. I am pleased that the House passed a bipartisan coronavirus emergency response package to provide the resources needed to combat the spread of coronavirus without taking away from existing public health funding accounts.
“This funding provides robust resources to develop treatments and a vaccine, supports state and local response efforts, and makes diagnostic tests readily available. It will also fortify the State Department and USAID to help with the global fight against coronavirus and curb any further spread to the U.S.
“Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate on party lines. This is about Americans protecting Americans and Congress doing our job to prevent a potential pandemic. I encourage the Senate to swiftly pass this funding package to give our nation’s medical personnel and officials a full arsenal to combat coronavirus.”
