McCaul Statement on Attack at U.S. Embassy in Baghdad

Washington D.C. – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee released the following statement calling for Iran and its proxies to be held accountable for attacking the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. 

“Attacks on our diplomatic institutions are completely unacceptable.

“Iran and its proxies must be held accountable for attacking the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. I applaud President Trump for acting swiftly and decisively to take additional measures to protect U.S. personnel in Iraq. We will remain vigilant against any actors who threaten Americans.

“As we mourn the death of a U.S. government contractor in Iraq earlier this week, I thank our diplomatic community and brave service members abroad, including the forces deployed to Baghdad in response to these attacks.

“The U.S. remains committed to supporting a strong, sovereign and prosperous Iraq.”
